A Tusi couple is a clever way to turn circular motion into straight-line motion. Imagine a big circle with a smaller circle inside it that’s half its size. When the smaller circle rolls around inside the bigger one, a point on the edge of the smaller circle moves back and forth in a straight line. This idea was used by a smart scientist named Nasir al-Din al-Tusi a long time ago to help understand how things move in space.
